Once I thought that there could be,
Peace on earth, tranquility,
But then I grew and knowledge found,
I did part with thoughts profound.
Watching world events unfold,
Learning what these stories told,
I buried early thoughts I had,
Of people peaceful, proud and glad.
Years I lived and still did think,
That peace was never on the brink.
But on that February night,
While watching with such delight.
I remembered things I’d long forgot,
That blood, sweat and tears were wrought.
Things that are so far from me,
Were truth, and fact, reality.
Lives are lost and blood is shed,
For this lavish life I’ve led.
A life that most will never know,
As they suffer, toil and sow.
For them hunger rules their day,
Seeking shelter all the time,
They have no security,
No peace or comfort do they find.
But I have these precious things,
Comfort, peace, security,
A home and food, all because,
They were there to fight for me.
